River Trails Nature Center

Our Mount Prospect and Niles employees participate in an annual sustainability-focused volunteer event near our US facilities in Northbrook, IL. Not only is the event meant to give back to our community but also improve our environment. For our 2019 event, a team of 20 employees participated in a Habitat Restoration project to start the groundwork for what will be a natural playground in a nature center.

They started prepping for the event by breaking down cardboard boxes and removing any tape and the pressure-sensitive shipping labels. They laid the cardboard flat on the soil to help prevent the growth of weeds and topped it off with mulch. Some cardboard was donated for the event by Avery Dennison and other local business.

Lemons of Love

Lemons of Love is a nonprofit organization that creates chemo care packages and gives community support to those going through cancer treatments. Our group was able to create 60 care packages thanks to Avery Dennison's Granting Wishes program. Many of our packages will go to Stroger Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

WINGS

For International Women’s Day we took our recognition of women to the community by offering our time and hard work to support WINGS. WINGS is a non-profit emergency safe shelter and transitional housing organization for victims of domestic violence. It operates 24 homes and apartments in Chicago and the western suburbs for victims needing to escape abusive situations.

The WINGS organization, to support its financial needs, operates resale shops in our area by accepting donations and then setting up the goods for sale in their stores. We will be assisting the WINGS team in sorting through donations, moving materials and organizing the merchandise.

Feed Our Starving Children

A group of Reflective Solutions employees volunteered to spend an afternoon at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in Schaumburg, IL. With the leadership of Lara Pearson, who applied for Avery Dennison’s Granting Wishes program, FMSC Foundation was awarded $3,000. This generous gift provides 13,636 meals - feeding 37 kids for an entire year! What a blessing to these children who otherwise have no reliable source of food or nutrition.

Volunteers scooped rice, managed the bagging process and packed the boxes for long overseas overseas journey. Stacey Hartman, Development Advisor for FMSC, sent her heartfelt thanks to all of those who donned a hairnet and made a difference in many young lives.

Global Leadership Team Supports Chicago Salvation Army

Two dozen members of Reflective Solutions’ global leadership team rallied together to give back to the Chicago local community at the Salvation Army's Harbor Light Center. Volunteers prepared and served meals, helped clean-up and shredded hundreds of old case files needed to keep the Salvation Army's Harbor Light Center going strong.

For more than 70 years on Chicago's West Side, the Salvation Army's Harbor Light Center has provided comprehensive, specialized services to help people overcome their addiction to drugs or alcohol and successfully reclaim lives in a safe, structured and secure environment. Every year, the Salvation Army helps nearly 30 million people, roughly one per second.

Habitat Restoration Day

The Reflective Solutions employees came together to participate in the Habitat Restoration Day at the River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook IL. Together they were able to remove invasive species, and remove trees that were falling to help with the restoration of the nature center.

A special thank you to our experienced site stewards Kevin Kuhn, and Brian Winters for taking the time to educate us, and lend us the tools (loppers, hand saws, eyewear, and gloves) to help with the restoration.

Envision Westtown Halloween Party

During a global leadership meeting, Avery Dennison Reflective Solutions put on a Halloween party to Envision Westtown, a center for adults with developmental disabilities.

In addition to financial support, organizations benefit from the personal involvement of Avery Dennison employees, who must participate in a one-time volunteer activity that contributes to the organization’s goal. Amy Wojtowicz, product manager, explained the Reflective team’s Halloween party at Envision Westtown includes karaoke, a craft project, and a card-making station where party-goers could use Reflective Solutions materials to make greeting cards.

“Working together outside our usual environment allowed us to learn more about each other and build stronger relationships,” Amy said. “Not only did our efforts help support the community, It’s also helped us work more effectively together.”
